This was our second time staying at one of Mike's condos and it was perfect (again!) from the get-go. The first thing you notice when you walk into unit 415 is all the attention to tasteful and attractive tropical decor and the place is so CLEAN! Next comes the view! Ah-h-h, the view of the waves crashing against the lava rocks practically under the lanai window was such a wonderful treat first thing in the morning and the moonlight over the ocean was wonderful as the last thing at night. This condo is designed for comfort and we were impressed that the kitchen utensils were plentiful, the knives were actually sharp, and everything was there to cook our meals or plan our picnics. There are boogeyboards, an ice chest, and lawn chairs, if needed. We took advantage of going to Costco on our way from the airport and used the barbecue for several yummy dinners. We even did laundry, which cuts down on the amount of suitcase space needed to bring clothes. Kuhio Shores is a wonderful location to access all points on the island and unit 415 is a great place to come home to after a day of snorkeling, hiking, or however you choose to explore the island. P.S.: You can walk 1/2 a block away to some of the best snorkeling on the island or drive 10 minutes to find other locations.
We have stayed in many condos, resorts and hotels in Hawaii but never have we had this kind of space, view and location at this price. We never wanted to leave our unit! Everything we needed was right there or nearby. Great Old Koloa Town has fun little shops, Wednesday from 4-6 is the killer farmers market at the strip mall nearby. Best of all was waking up to the turtles surfing right out the window in the ocean waves and then the people on surf boards, snorkelers, etc. We even spotted some early whales! It was never loud or crowded. We will be back!
My wife Jen and I stayed at this condo for a week and it couldn't have been a more relaxing, peaceful, clean, and quiet place to regenerate after a day exploring the Island. The proximity to the ocean and the view from the fourth and uppermost floor were just awesome and about as good as it gets. Sunsets, Rainbows, Surfers in the distance, Nice Trade Winds, and Sea Turtles, all while sitting on your own private Lanai....what can I say...Paradise. Parking was never a hassle, staff was friendly, and the Condo is well equipped. We Heartily recommend this unit as a very nice place to stay and for us worth the small added premium in price. Frankly, we would stay there again.
We highly recommend this unit. The owner was great to work with and the condo is a dream. The view is unbeatable, the surfers and the turtles that you see from the balcony will keep you entertained for hours! The condo is very thoughtfully stocked with everything you need for a great vacation. Furnishings are very comfortable and wifi works great. The location was convenient for shopping, restaurants and trips to Waimea Canyon and the small boat harbor. We look forward to a return visit. Mahalo!
Beautiful condo in a lovely complex. We enjoyed our week in this spotless unit which was even nicer in person than in the pictures and description on this website. Especially appreciated were the floor fans in each room, which with the ceiling fans made the days when the trade winds weren't blowing fairly comfortable. Parking was never a problem and location was close to several shopping areas. Owner was helpful and rental process was easy. We would definitely recommend this unit to friends and family.
Very comfortable condo on the sunny south shore in Poipu. We got stuck on the balcony enjoying the awesome oceanfront views and the sound of the waves a couple afternoons when we should have been out touring the island. Nice snorkeling all around the complex, but the entry to the east was rocky and pretty challenging if barefoot. To the west is easier entry, and the water seemed calmer there most days. The surf breaks just off shore, so there was a steady stream of surfers from first light to sundown. The surf can also be a little daunting when snorkeling, so be careful to stay in the calmer areas if you're inexperienced, plus watch out for those surfers. The multitude of sea-life (including turtles!) is worth it though. Seasport Divers shop is a 2 minute drive away, making those 7:30am pre-dive head counts a little easier to make. As mentioned by another reviewer, the tower fans were great to bring things into the comfort zone when the ceiling fans weren't quite enough. The two pairs of binoculars were totally unexpected - great for whale-watching or checking out the surfers. Nice touch Mike and Sue! Having fully functioning laundry facilities was great, and we could have packed a lot less if we'd planned better for that. It's coin-op (there's a change machine), took less than 2 hours, and cost $5 total for detergent/wash/dry, and there's great counter space for folding your newly clean clothes. My singular complaint about the condo is the bed was too firm for my tastes, but that's just me. My wife liked it. Lot's of great food in the area, and the farmers markets were perfect for fresh fruit/veggies/bread/etc. Matt, who runs Makai (I think that's the name) sushi in the small grocery at the other end of the Seasport Divers mini-mall, rolls up some wicked sushi that makes a great lunch back on the condo balcony, along with a fresh fruit smoothie or perhaps a cocktail - hey you're on vacation! Koloa Fish Market also has nice plate lunches, and fresh poke (cubed marinated raw fish). Our best dinner was at Merriman's. For early risers, the trail up to the cliffs just east of Shipwreck beach (just east of the Hyatt), is THE place to be for sunrise. Then continue east for a beautiful morning hike along the undeveloped shoreline. The lawn in front of the Beach House restaurant right next door was a fine sunset spot. All in all this condo was a perfect base for our stay in Kauai.
What a beautiful condo & location on the sunny side. We had everything we needed in this beautiful oceanfront condo. We are talking about when we can return to this slice of paradise. Thanks to Mike & Sue for making everything so easy, from the rental car (great rate) to the keys mailed to us. It was so easy which helped with the de-stressing process. You get there & the stress just disappears! Thanks again. Mahalo.
The view and location of this comfortable Condo can't be beat. My husband and I just traveled to the Island of Kauai for the first time. This Condo is perfect for a couple. It is furnished very comfortably and well stocked. The lani furniture sits high enough to look over the railing giving you an unobstructed view of the waves, sunset, sunrise and more. We did day trips from here and had to get back each afternoon to walk to the small beach to the right of the Condo, to go snorkeling everyday, then return to the lani to watch the sunset! We will return to Kauai, and will rent from Mike and Sue again.
We were blessed to find this wonderful condo in Poipu and the owners Mike and Sue were helpful and kind. This condo had everything needed to feel like you were home . The furnishings were comfortable although we spent the majority of our time out on the lanai if we were at "home". My husband made good use of the BBQs, we cooked most meals ourselves. The sunsets here were nothing short of breathtaking . We watched turtles in the morning and dolphins swimming past. Not to mention the waves. My husband snorkelled with so many turtles. Everything was perfect here and our first trip to Kauai will not be our last. From the mountains and valleys of the na Pali coast to the beaches Poipu area and everything in between this is truly paradise !
My Husband and I really loved our stay at Kuhio Shores 415 .It over looked the surf and the surfers. I didn't even turn on the tv .The Lanai was so entertaining watching 17 surfers dodging each other between sets. The Beach House is next door and has beautiful sunset. The location was perfect for touring the island and sightseeing.Mike was so helpful on finding a rental car to boating. You need air cond. when your sleeping its humid in the summer . This condo had beach chairs ,umbrellas and everything you need for the beach even coolers and ice packs. My favorite place to snorkel was out the door to the left of the condo. Great fish.We will be back. Thanks Laura & Ollie Burt
We have been staying at Mike's condo at Kuhio Shores for over 15 years, simply because it is the best place to stay due to the Aloha warmth, details, comforts of home...and of course the location! You are blessed with an amazing oceanfront location, that will mesmerize you. One of our favorite things to do, was simply enjoy our coffee or dinner on the balcony and watch the surfers and sea turtles, which would entertain us for hours. Falling asleep to the sound of the ocean each night is incredible. Mike is always a gracious host, and the condo is WELL appointed and very comfortable with nice Hawaiian touches. We can't wait to return....again!!
If you want an inviting and well-appointed place to stay in the Poipu region, with a spectacular location right on the edge of the dramatic Kauai shoreline, Kuhio Shores #415 is the condo of your dreams. Here you are: four stories above the surf tumbling over lava rocks, watching green sea turtles wave-bobbing below and surfers shredding rolling waves from sunup to twilight. Located near the southernmost point of Kauai, the condo is an ideal place to take in both sunrises and sunsets from its lanai. And the comforting, soothing white-noise-rhythm of incoming waves over the rocks provides an all-night serenade while you sleep. This condo is appointed with excellent furnishings and touches — including air conditioning — and a full kitchen with an impressive array of cooking utensils and gadgets. It's close to restaurants, shopping and scenery, including two of Kauai's three renowned National Tropical Botanical Gardens, Allerton and McBryde, a mile away, plus sandy Poipu beaches and snorkeling. And right next door is the famed Beach House Restaurant. All this makes Kuhio Shores #415 the place to call your headquarters for a South Shore visit. This condo is delightful, comfy and convenient, and is maintained with high quality by owners Mike and Sue.
This property is the finest vacation rental condo we've ever enjoyed. The location - just outside the "tourist zone" of Poipu, adjacent to Lawai Beach and community parks, and within walking distance to ample shopping, couldn't be better. All the amenities very nearby without the traffic and crowds associated with busy tourist zones. Everything in the condo feels brand new including all of the appliances, furniture and amenities and linens. The owner graciously provides ample beach goodies including towels, coolers, ice packs, chairs, umbrellas, and boogie boards to suit anyones needs. We truly needed to bring nothing but our clothes, food and drink. The 4th floor condo has an unparalleled 180 degree view of the ocean from the sunrise over Poipu in the morning to the sunset over Waimea every evening. The complex has a wonderful lawn adjacent to the ocean sea wall and shares and easy walking path with the first rate Beach House restaurant. Every evening was spent on this lawn, with drink in hand, watching the sun spectacularly set. We made use of the two on site barbeques as well as the onsite shared laundry facilities. There is ample parking - although beware of the nightly parakeet migration and the mess they can bring with them roosting in the parking lot trees for the night. Great trades winds cool the condo with the front and backdoors open. Truly outstanding and we look forward to a return visit, sooner than later! Mahalo Mike!
We rented Kuhio Shores unit 415 in January 2019. I was somewhat sceptical as to what I saw of the pictures on the accommodations would match to reality. The pictures were totally accurate. The unit was very clean and comfortable, and the location was so exceptional. Mike Gavin, the owner, was enjoyable and trustworthy and a pleasure to deal with. The lanai was private, and the ocean view unmatched, and the viewing of both sunrises and sunsets from the lanai was what we dreamed for. We spent more time than expected at the condo because we felt that there was no other place we would rather be. Listening to the waves crashing the shore, the wonderful view of the night sky and stars, watching sunrises and sunset. Watching sea turtles and surfers in the ocean directly in front of the unit. Walking the shorelines from the condo was very enjoyable. It was just so relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable. We will return again, and will look forward to it. Totally recommend this condo rental.
