LAKE IS FULL!! PETS: Please read entire description for information and Pet Policy FINE PRINT: This is a nonsmoking cabin, smoking is permitted at the fire ring on the waterfront. The use of "medical cannabis" is not permitted. We are not a fit for you if you plan on using this product on our property. If discovered you will be charged an additional $250 cleaning fee, the remainder of your reservation will be canceled and you will be asked to leave. THE CABIN IS RENTED DURING YOUR DESIRED DATES AS WE MAY BE ABLE TO OFFER YOU THE LODGE AT A DISCOUNT. This charming rustic cabin is located on the property of Watanda Lodge, Nevada City, California, 2 1/2 miles from downtown Nevada City. This is a secret hide-away with lake, canoes, stage and large camp fire ring. Sleeps up to 5 (2 adults and 3 kids) or 4 adults, linens provided for queen bed; bottom sheets & pillows provided for the twin bunk (bring your own sleeping bag or you can make bed with linens provided) and linens for double sized sofa sleeper or bring your own. Direct TV/DVD. Wall furnace, window A/C in living room. Phone for local calls, but no cell service. Internet available at the lodge, just can't get the signal at the cabin. Port-a-crib available. The remodeled fully equipped kitchen contains everything you need including BBQ tools and high chair. Pots, pans, dishes, microwave, toaster, coffee maker all provided. A picnic table and charcoal BBQ sits on the porch. Single bedroom with queen bed and bathroom with shower. The cabin sits on Lake Vera (lake views from the back porch), canoes, chairs and shade provided. Charcoal BBQ and picnic area on waterfront. No license needed for fishing. Life jackets are provided and required for all boaters. Lake is seasonal and is drained from November (depending on rainy season) to mid-April. Lake levels begin to drop in August and can be quite low in dry summers. Lodge located on property may be rented to others at the same time so waterfront may be shared. Inquire at time of rental if this is a concern for you. There is an ALL-LAKE quiet from 9:30 pm to 7:00 am. Only activities that do not create a noise disturbance are allowed. For larger groups, see our lodge listing. Nevada City: The Spring and Fall in Nevada City are not to be missed, this small Gold Mining town is a definite destination for a week (or weekend) of fun. There are several wineries in the area as well as many fine restaurants, and antique stores. Both Empire Gold Mine and Malakoff Diggings are open for tours. Grocery stores, hospital and other services less than 5 miles away. SUMMER USE: April, May and June are my favorite months Watanda, the days are warm and evenings are long. There are numerous lakes in the area and Yuba River is 3 miles away. Hwy 20 has many Equestrian trails and staging areas. The fairgrounds is close by and has a variety of antique and quilt shows, horse events and home shows. WINTER USE: Nevada City and Grass Valley both have weekly Christmas Fairs in December offering many local artisans. Great location for Tahoe skiers who do not want to pay resort prices. Cross country skiing 45 minutes away on Hwy 20, snow play less than 20 minutes up Hwy 20. Cabin at 2500 ft elevation and is located off main road which is plowed but has long driveway that is not plowed. There is parking at the road entrance if snow is a problem, but rarely is. Saucer sleds available. PETS: Well behaved owners with good citizen dogs (2 dog limit) are welcome. No cats. Please bring their own food dishes and towels. *Pets cannot be left unattended unless crated. Please help us to remain pet friendly by keeping pets off furniture and using door gates as needed. *Dogs must be in your direct control at all times and are not allowed to roam freely on the property. Must be leashed if other guests are present. *Any dog disturbing the enjoyment of other guests with aggressive behavior or excessive barking will need to be boarded. *Dogs must have current rabies vaccination. *It is recommended that dogs be treated 3 days before arrival with a topical flea and tick medication such at 'Advantage'. **DO NOT USE MAPQUEST DIRECTIONS...THEY ARE WRONG. Reviews
The cabin was sweet. It's set back from the lake with not much of a view from the house but it's just a short stroll down to the lakefront. The deer greeted us each morning we were there. The owner John was awesome. He made sure we were comfortable and lent us a flashlight when there was a notification that the power might go out due to high winds. The winds never picked up and the lights stayed on. Nice selection of boats to use. The lake is small and shallow with not much fish, but we had it all to ourselves. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. Kitchen was stocked with everything to BBQ on the charcoal grill outside and cook in. The bed was super comfortable. Loved the heating blanket. We'd definitely come back.
The cabin is fine for sleeping and simple meals, not for casual hanging out. The view is not attractive. You can barely see the lake if you crane your neck around the cabin. The deck is not condusive to relaxing or sitting out with garbage cans the primary view. The barbecue is adequate, but their needs to be a starter. I don't use lighter fluid or similar. There are not enough cooking impliments for anything other than simple meals. The price is very reasonable and, again fine for basic sleeping and eating.
Somewhat difficult to find. Not close to the downtown areas at all. Windy road and really isolated so if that is what you are this is your spot.
We spent a long weekend in the cabin this time, but had previously stayed in the lodge. Pilot light was out when we arrived and it was quite cold in the cabin but John drove from several hours away to fix the problem and the rest of our stay was comfortable and cozy. John and Kathryn are solid, honest folks and have a lovely property that they choose to share with others. The cabin is very handsomely decorated with a North woods feel. We hope it never changes, just lovely and restful.

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin at Lake Vera. It is well equipped, roomier than we might first have imagined (especially the kitchen), and comfortable. The owners have equipped it with everything that's needed and left helpful suggestions. The cabin is also closer to the main part of the charming town of Nevada City than we realized at first, which was a plus in our book.
A very cozy and comfortable place. Have been staying with friends since losing our home in the Camp Fire. Spent Christmas here and really enjoyed the views, and all the comforts of “home.” Owner very responsive to questions, easy to reach. Hope we can go back!
My family had a lovely stay and look forward to coming back. The cabin was clean and well cared for. The scenery was beautiful too. Kathryn made it easy and comfortable to get settled. We feel very lucky she shared her cabin with us.
very nice and private. only a few issues. the floors had not been swept or vacuumed. so we did that. lot of burnt out light bulbs. but a very pleasant stay.
Very peaceful, beautiful lake and close to town. Would highly recommend!
