I stayed at the volcano cottage for three weeks in December. It was the most peaceful, secluded sanctuary! I felt as if I had gone back in time…. Even though there were neighboring homes in (distant) sight, I never heard a sound except for the birds. The seclusion is only an impression, however; I could walk to the Volcano Winery, and shops and restaurants (oh, the restaurants!) were within a five-minute drive. It's a quick jaunt to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and a drive to Hilo for the day is a good idea, too. But I found that I wanted to stay put, light the fireplace or sit on the wraparound porch, drink hot chocolate, and watch nature through the mist after fixing dinner in the huge, well-equipped kitchen. I was alone, but this cottage has plenty of room for families or two couples. It would be a great place for a retreat. There are so many properties to choose from yet the owner LInda was so accomodating and gave us a deal we couldn't refuse. The property is very nice, I loved the gas stove! The backyard is beautiful going into a forest and the bedrooms were very tastefully decorated. The beds were very comfortable. I would highly recommend this property and am hopeful that we will stay again when visiting the Hawaii National Volcanoes park.
