I really cannot say it any better then previous tenants. Wonderful coffee, Beautiful landscaping with native plants and fruit. (Plenty of Aloe for those of us who get sunburned) Best tasting bananas I have ever eaten. So nice to pick fresh papaya for breakfast. Beautiful sunsets. Brad guided us to great snorkeling and places to dolphin watch. A must see if only for a weekend.
This was our second trip to the Big Island and the South Kona Coffee Estate. Motivated by our amazing first experience at this estate, we decided to bring along my parents this time and rented two cottages, Dolphin and Whale. These cottages offer simple but very comfortable accommodation with all necessary amenities and a refreshing tropical backdrop. We enjoyed making meals in the well-stocked outdoor kitchen surrounded by macadamia nut, coffee, banana, papaya, and a host of other trees and plants. Brad and Linda are great hosts and provided us with generous servings of deliciously fresh Kona coffee, macadamia nuts, avocados, and tropical fruits! Located away from crowded resorts and touristy areas, this place offers a welcome change from a monotonous daily life for city dwellers like us that is hard to describe. It made our trip to the Big Island much more memorable! So, if you are looking for a tropical paradise to relax and nourish your soul amid coffee and macadamia nuts plantation, then look no further. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed!
Clean secluded comfortable private and a true Hawian experience. Linda and Brad were great hosts. The fresh fruit coffee and macadamia nuts were a real treat. Brad is a world of knowledge for local attractions. We would highly recomend. Dale and Carole
This is a wonderful escape from everything stressful. All the fresh fruit at your fingertips, the song of the tree frogs to lull you to sleep. Super comfortable bed and a view from the deck that can't be beat. We will return!
There are more than 5000 Marriott hotels around the world that offer the identical, comfortably numbing familiar experience. If that’s where you want to spend your time and money—and there’s nothing wrong with that—stay in Kona. But there is only one South Kona Coffee Estate and Retreat and it offers a taste of Paradise. Choose Paradise. You’ve flown thousands of miles to get to the Big Island. Drive south a few more miles. You won't regret it. SKCER is run by Brad and Linda, the caretakers of Paradise, and they will do everything they can to ensure your stay is comfortable and memorable. You’ll have access to all modern conveniences including wi-fi although I highly recommend you un-plug, breath in the rarefied atmosphere created by palm and papaya trees, banana groves, macadamia trees and coffee bushes and re-set yourself. You will need a car to get around (be careful on the twisty, curving roads and be on the lookout for drivers who speed). There are numerous beaches, attractions, places to eat, and things to do. Ask Brad for recommendations. Or you can just hang out. Pick a papaya off one of the trees and eat it. You're eating pure energy produced by the sun. Meditate. Do some yoga. Let your body and mind detoxify. At night, look at the sky and see the stars as you’ve never seen them. Things will be put in perspective. South Kona Coffee Estate and Retreat is one of the few places left in the world where you can experience a pure state of just being. Sit and sip on a cup of coffee brewed from beans grown on this 250,000 year old lava field. And know that you’re lucky to be here.
We loved our week long stay at the Dolphin cottage. Brad is an amazing host, providing: snorkel gear, beach chairs and towels, all the fresh fruit & macadamia nuts you can eat, fresh Kona coffee he grows right there, fresh water to fill your water bottles, fresh towels, etc. The cottage is small but has a king size comfortable bed, an outdoor shared kitchen with one other unit, and your own unattached bath. It is meant as a place to rest, not hang out, although the owner has several different levels of comfort you can also rent if you prefer a longer stay. It is located between the black & green sand beaches and Kona so you can take a short drive in either direction to see great things. You can see amazing sunsets right from his property.
This was our second stay with Brad and Linda. We've experieced them to be extraordinairly hospitable hosts. The welcoming fruit tray and nuts made us feel right at home. We LOVED the view of the ocean and the sunsets. The sauna was a great touch, too. It was fun to cook in the outdoor kitchen. Love the proximity to beaches and Captain Cook. Brad and Linda have great recommendations for restaurants and activities. We like the simplicity of South Kona Coffee Estate and Retreat. We will be back in 2020.
We spent a week this February in the Dolphin cottage and loved it! We were looking for a unique experience on the Big Island and this was it! It is very clean, quiet, and well equipped with all that you need for meal prep and beach adventures. The king sized bed is very comfy and the large fridge is a bonus. To be able to pick your own fruit and macadamia nuts right on their farm and eat them to your heart’s content is a wonderful experience not many get to have! The outdoor kitchen is shared with the other cabin and has everything you need. It worked out very well. There is all the beach toys and equipment handy to use. I loved to sit outside drinking my morning coffee under the canopy of the mac nut trees watching and listening to the beautiful birds. Blissful! Brad and Linda are very friendly and attentive. Brad is full of great tips of where to go on the Island etc. and he responds promptly to any requests made (ie. extra towels). Mahalo again Brad and Linda!
Tropical oasis. Comfortable and clean open-air cottage with all the fresh fruit we could ever want. Brad is a very accommodating and helpful host. He even set us up with a stellar massage therapist who came to the estate. Things are perfectly simple and off the beaten path. We look forward to returning.
We stayed in the Mango house. Its away from the highway, so very quiet. Its entirely solar, but plenty for charging phones, etc. Comfortable bed ! Kitchen is adequate. Lots of birds! Fresh fruit for the picking along with macadamia nuts! Brad, the owner was great. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!
We had the most amazing time at the South Kona Coffee Estate! You will love this place! Our cottage was in the middle of a beautiful jungle farm with the view of the ocean in the distance. Surrounded by bananas, cofffee trees, macadamia nut trees, avocado trees and beautiful smelling flowers, our senses were on overload! The windows were open air screens that gave you the feeling of being one with nature, and the night sounds of the frogs and occasional rain showers on the metal roof created the most romantic environment ever! The cottage was immaculate, and rustic in a perfect way. Rainbows and gorgeous sunsets were an every day occurrence. We wished we never had to leave, and are looking forward to going back!
Great value for one of a kind experience! The cabins are rustic but clean. I liked the outdoor kitchen and the indoor bathroom. The bed was comfy... we did have one stormy night were the coqui frogs were very loud and with the windows only screened I needed earplugs to get some sleep. The other nights the frogs were not as bad and had quite a comfortable sleep with all the fresh air. Brad was attentive to our needs and helpful with advice on things to do in the area. Mahalo!
