Escape to northern Wisconsin where summer nights are cool, crowds and traffic do not exist, and life is simpler. Once the great north woods, today this is a rural paradise filled with small treasures that are reminiscent of times past. Situated 10 miles west of Bayfield at the end of the road lies Raspberry Bay Lake Front House with 265' of lake front and an unobstructed view to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Raspberry bay is shallow with ever changing sand bars which is frequently empty except for the wildlife. Ideal for kids as the water is shallow and warm for Lake Superior. Sit on the shore in an adirondack chair and read a book or just enjoy the tranquility. Looking out to the lake you can see the Raspberry Island lighthouse along with Bear Island, Oak Island, Rocky Island and Otter Island. Take one of our canoes out for a peaceful paddle along the shore or up raspberry slough for some wildlife viewing. Sea kayak right from the house and enjoy good proximity to the 21 islands that make up the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Apostle Islands National Lakeshore has been named the top National Park destination for its untouched natural beauty and large collection of lighthouses. It is possible to launch your boat 4 miles east at Little Sand Bay and anchor it out in front of the house and wade ashore. Bike, run, walk or drive over to Eagle point 3 miles away. Watch and hear the waves crash or lap (depending on the weather) onto the shore from your bedroom. Enjoy breathtaking sunsets and look for the northern lights while you take in the night sky. Celebrate with smores on a crackling campfire and enjoy the outdoors. Expect a very relaxing and memorable vacation experience year round. 5 bedrooms, 3.5+ bathrooms. Fully equipped kitchen. Our group of 11 (8 adults, 3 children) stayed 3 days in this home in June of 2017. I was not quite prepared for how remote the location is. This is, in fact, a good thing! The home is absolutely beautiful. It is well equipped, with the room arrangement great for a collection of couples or small families to spread out. Our children loved being steps away from the lake, and the rest of our party enjoyed the screened in porches, comfortable sitting areas, and the fireplace and fire pit. Margie, the caretaker, was easily reachable by phone, and we did need to contact her regarding some minor issues. with a broken microwave. I was disappointed that the hot tub (mentioned in reviews, but not in the listing) was not filled, with the breaker flipped. I took that as an "off limits" notice. Since a number of our group are IT nerds, I wanted to share that this location is remote, with no cell signal, and slow internet access. If you visit here, and rely on GPS for getting around, i would recommend using the Google Maps app to download offline map data for the region before visiting. This will save you some confusion later.
This was our third return trip to Raspberry Bay; we are so happy to have found this home to rent. The property is beautiful and we love the private location. The accommodations are as incredible as the views, and Kelly and Jim have been fantastic. Thank you for sharing your home!!
Our family had rented this home 3 years ago and enjoyed our stay so much we returned. The house, hosts, and caretaker did not disappoint. The caretaker checked in by phone to make sure all was well, the house is WELL stocked with every necessity (well-stocked with EVERY kitchen supply we could ever want to use), the views stupendous and our experience not short of perfect. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable!
What a great place to celebrate a family gathering!
What wasn't to love about our stay here?! It was so remote and peaceful and the cabin and views are absolutely stunning. We had a winter stay which was so nice. Waking up in the morning to the trees and lake covered in snow was so beautiful. The hosts were very responsive and great to 'work' with! I highly recommend staying here.. we will be back for sure!
Perfect home for my 70th birthday get together with my adult children, their husbands and three grandchildren. The home has plenty of space, so we had room to spread out and yet great gathering areas for games, conversation and meals together. The kitchen is wonderful and is super equipped with pans, dishes, silverware, not missing a thing. We enjoyed Kayaking with an outfitter, taking the ferry and biking on Madeline Island. The hike into Lost Creek falls and the falls themselves are great. All in all this is a beautiful home in a beautiful area.
This home is beautiful, well equipped and serene. I rented it to celebrate the 20th year of girls' weekends with the same group of five ladies! It looked so lovely online that I rented the home for a week, with the gals planning to arrive on Thursday night. Boy, am I glad. My husband and dog and I spent three glorious days in the sun on the back deck, swimming in the bay (just beyond the rocks there is SAND), and we took the canoe out two days. Hubs and and dog left Thursday morning and my gal pals arrived. Everything was awesome; they were impressed that they didn't have to bring bedding or towels, and the kitchen, the kitchen, we all played house in that kitchen - it was even fun to clean! While we were there we headed into Bayfield one day, Madeline Island the next, and loved the Copper Crow Distillery. We watched a movie one night downstairs and ate frozen pizza, just like we have served our kids at home at times - it was PERFECT. The last night we stayed up late playing games and chatting while listening to the water lapping on shore. Major plus for us was that the home had toilet paper, paper towels, some spices, etc. There was a time we rented a home in Palm Springs and after a half day of traveling to get there, we discovered that we couldn't even go to the bathroom without having to go shopping! The ONLY negative was that there was a bat. From the entries in the visitor journal this seems to be a common occurrence. Two of my friends were able to get it into the screened in porch... one thing I would suggest (because I had a bat problem in my home in Crosslake, MN), is to hire someone to find out where they're coming in and block it. For me, I have a fireplace in my master bedroom and one in my living room - they were coming in from both. We simply installed wire mesh over the small openings over the fireplace exhaust vents. Plus, you don't want bats flying around in the house if it's empty. To finish, I couldn't believe that I had the chance to stay in such a lovely home and location! Thank you for letting complete strangers be here... to celebrate, recharge, and for me, I always come away invigorated with a new outlook and goals. I start my 27th year of teaching high school in a few weeks, and this place was the perfect place to prepare my heart and my mind.
This is a very beautiful house with everything you may need. The pictures do not do it justice. There is so much room. We loved our stay there. I would recommend this to everyone and so would the 7 other people that stayed there with me. Margie the caretaker was very kind and nice. Thank you Jim and Kelly for offering your house for our girls getaway weekend.
We were there with 12 people. This house is very spacious and there was amble room for everyone. The kitchen is well equipped and the dining area had 10 of us around the table and two at the kitchen island. The screened porch off to the side of the dining area was enjoyable to sit in and listen to the sound of the breeze and occassinally two noisy fledgling eagles. It rained one day and we sat in the porch off the dining room and enjoyed the beauty of the rain and the woods. There are many nearby activities in Bayfield, Madeline Island, including tours of the Apostles Island and music at Big Top Chautauqua. If you don't want to go anywhere, the house is a great place to relax and enjoy the outside hot tub. Kelly, the property manager, was quick to respond to any questions we had. Yes this house is as wonderful as everyone says.
We stayed here for a family reunion and celebration of life of my father-in-law. We had a great week walking down memory lane where my in-laws had owned a cabin in the area for 30 years. The house is well suited to a multi-generational gathering. We had no trouble parking our RV next to the garage and still had plenty of parking for the rest of the vehicles. The inside of the home is appointed comfortably and the kitchen was a nice surprise to have so many spices and other cooking items readily available. We had brought our own kayak and paddle board and used the provided canoe daily. We were fortunate to have gorgeous weather and the lake was calm. The dog loved the easy access for swimming. What a bonus to have two sets of washers and dryers. The screened in porches were a great asset. We had one night with a thunderstorm that was a pleasant surprise as we don't get those out west very often. This is a beautiful home with great furnishings and plenty of room that we would certainly stay at again.
