Great cottage -- beautiful woodwork; great 'space' for community and privacy; nice hot tub and separate jucuzi bath; good access to the lake. It's not on the lake itself, but excellent access down a hill.
My wife and I rented the house the last week of June 2010. I was cynical when my wife made the arrangements. Once again, I had to admit my wife was right. The house is beautiful and clean. The care and craftmanship of the construction combined with the careful maintenance make this more than a rental cottage. Add to that the peaceful setting and the time spent on Crystal Lake made for a relaxing week that my wife and I needed and enjoyed. We will rent again.
My wife, son and I rented the house for a week surrounding the 4th of July. The first thing we were treated to on the night we arrived was an awesome sunset on the lake and that set the tone for the rest of the week. The house was very relaxing, windows open, sounds of the birds, watching the squirrels and just chilling out on the deck. The amenities inside the house are all you need. Everything was there for us. We loved the small towns nearby, slipped away for a day of golf and massages at Crystal Mountain Resort. So, what makes the house great besides the house itself is all the things you can do around and in that area. We had a great vacation and did not have to worry about one thing in the house wich was wonderful.
We stayed with our daughter and son-in-law for 3 days at this cozy cottage and didn't want to leave. It had it all...plenty of things to do, beautiful views and a gorgeous place to stay. The house is one of a kind! The kids were busy and we were relaxed...can't wait to do it again!
Jill and Richard's house is so perfect we could have stayed forever. It is very comfortable and they have thought of every little amenity to make the stay as easy as being home. We have been vacationing in the area for over 20 years and are thrilled to find this gem. Four adults and one five year old had a very memorable and relaxing time there. We could not have asked for more and heartily recommend it.
What a beautiful place for our family reunion! The home is first class with every amenity covered. I truly could have come with just my clothing and had everything I needed! The home will sleep eight, but we had six adults and found it a bit tight. I think it would be perfect for 4 adults and 4 children though. The lake is beautiful and there is a lot to do in the area. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who just wants to "get away from it all." Oh so peaceful! The location of the home is up on a bluff so access to the lake is a bit of a challenge especially anyone with small children or older individuals not used to walking up and down hills.
We can not say enough about this home! It is beautifully decorated with a very artistic flare. Every room is warm and inviting and supplied with all the amenities any person would need. The woodwork and craftsmanship is fantastic. The outside decks are very relaxing and has a wonderful hot tub! As the other reviews mentioned, there are numberous things to do in the Frankfort area, we recommend doing them all! Great restruants and shopping. As a family we really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this house. Richard and Jill are very kind and made us feel right at home. Thank you for such a great vacation!
It was a pleasure to stay at this beautiful home. It was perfect for our family of three adults and three children. The description provided was accurate but doesn't do justice to how well cared for and well-appointed the home is. This is not the kind of vacation rental that is sparsely furnished with Ikea furniture and a few cheap linens. Quite the opposite - it was well stocked with comfortable furnishings and beautiful arts and crafts. The garden is also beautifully cared for and the kitchen is well suited for home cooking. It is also worth noting how professional, kind and accommodating the owners are. We were very pleased by our stay and would stay again anytime.
The craftsman home that we rented near Frankfort was impeccable with lovely decor. The owners were there to give our family a warm welcome and provided every detail to make our stay comfortable. The idyllic setting included adjacent woods with hiking paths. We were close to all our favorite northern Michigan spots: beaches, Gwen Frostic's, Cherry Hut, canoeing down the Platt River, Crystal Lake, Sleeping Bear Dunes and Lake Michigan. This gave us the serene vacation we were looking for, and we highly recommend this lovely house!
Our family had a fabulous week in this delightfully designed home that is filled with artwork inside and outside. The gardens added to our level of relaxation. The location was terrific as it was a short trip to Frankfort, boat rentals, Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Glen Arbor. We could have stayed for two weeks easily. The weather was beautiful, sunshine and breezy! So calming, just what we needed and received. The owners take great pride in their home. The story of how it came to be is honorable.
This home truly lives up to the reviews and photos provided. The craftsmanship, artwork, and gardens surrounding this home are going to keep you entranced throughout your entire stay. The thoughtful touches such as the fabulously scented hand soaps (a different one in each bathroom!), fluffy beach towels, and family-oriented books/games/movies were really nice. The lake was absolutely gorgeous, and is appropriately named Crystal. Great fishing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. We truly appreciated the owners' dedication to making our trip great, especially when the unexpected happened: Richard was very helpful in recommending a local mechanic to take care of a car repair. Lake views from the house aren't really possible, but you'll feel like you're in a tree house and the peace and privacy of being up the hill is worth it!
My family and I could not be more satisfied with our stay. Words and pictures cannot possibly express the beauty of this property. From the one-of-a-kind craftsmanship to the beautifully decorated gardens, it does not get any more gorgeous than this. Everywhere you turn you will discover carefully chosen artwork that make this home feel like a museum. Relaxing in the hot tub in the evenings with nature all around you warrants a sixth star! The location was excellent. About 1 hour drive to Traverse City. The town of Frankfort was fun and charming. Crystal Lake is absolutely breathtaking. The owners were friendly and responsive. They made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable during our stay. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.
This is a super cute home with two separate living areas separated by a common floor. There is a nice hot tub and two awesome outdoor/deck spaces. The house has wi-if, cable, and the owners also provide towels and linens. They also have bikes, kayaks, etc for guest use. There's also a washer/dryer...nice to have! We would definitely rent this place again. Notes - the stovetop was a pain to light and the oven routinely set off the very sensitive fire alarm, even though nothing was burning. The property/house also have a ton of stairs and steep walkways. This is not a house for people with disabilities, though the owners do offer baby gates, which we used to keep small children from escaping from the deck spaces. There is a lot of really amazing art and knick-knacks around, much of which we had to hide to protect from curious kids. There is no private beach access - public beach access is a long walk or short drive away. However - there's a pretty view from the deck and lots of walking trails throughout the property. Overall - beautiful and well maintained. Very lovely.
A beautifully decorated cottage, inside and out. Very comfy and cozy. Lots of wood accents which really made us feel like we were somewhere special. Being there just gave us a good feeling. The whole place has a peaceful vibe. Plenty of room to spread out. The back deck was a favorite. Shaded. Relaxing. Watching the birds eat at the feeder. Great for morning coffee. Kitchen is fully loaded for any kind of cooking or baking. Close to Frankfort's downtown. We would stay again. One of our favorite vacations.
Have you ever lived in a gallery? Me neither! Until now! Our family of 5 (2 kids, grandma and parents) plus the dog stayed at this cottage at the end of August. It's is a beautiful house! Warm, inviting, comfortable. We all want to come back. Besides being decorated throughout with items that the owners had collected from local Michigan artists, there are beautiful details in the house itself. Like the wood inlay on the stair risers and the trim work on the doors. It is also a very comfortable place to stay. All the amenities are there and the kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans and proper utensils. My kids wanted to move there!
The house was very well appointed with light wood floors.nice bathrooms and a great kitchen with every kind of pan or utensil you could want. The design of three floors afforded a lot of privacy. It was filled with lots of lovely art and craftwork, books, games, comfortable seating in the living area.
Where to begin! We had a fantastic week at Crystal Lake in a perfect house! Richard and Jill were fantastic hosts! The house is well appointed & maintained. We loved that it was nestled in the woods, but loved being able to hear and see Crystal Lake while in the hot tub. Our hosts really thought of everything from having more than enough towels to even Netflix on the televisions! The furniture in the bedrooms and living spaces was so comfortable that it was like being at home! We all had a fantastic week and everyone from the 7 year old to adults only had glowing things to say about this house!
