5 Bedrooms, 7 Bathrooms, Sleeps 14 The Sandcastle is just that, a 'castle' (5 bedrooms and 6.5 baths) perched on the dunes of its own peninsula, with water on three sides, and direct access to a private beach ('Twopenny Loaf Beach') that only the guests of Sand Castle and a few other lucky neighbors have use of. Situated on four acres with the beach and ocean surrounding (and not a neighbor in sight!) the house is adjacent to protected greenbelt reservation land, guaranteeing your privacy and serenity. The sun sets over the Bay and and the view from the deck and beach is unsurpassed. From the East deck wake up to a magnificent sunrise over the marsh. From almost every window in the house the view is of the Essex River, the marsh, Hog Island and the Crane Estate in Ipswich, all undeveloped land which reinforces the feeling that you are in an untouched, incomparably beautiful place. Built in 2009 the house boasts every modern amenity but is designed with the classic Cape Cod style intact with high ceilings, plentiful windows and lots of natural light, beautiful woodwork accents and moldings, all en-suite bedrooms, central air conditioning (in the bedroom on the main floor and the entire second floor) and high end, but not ostentatious, furnishings and fittings.?Enter into the center of the house with a grand staircase that takes you up to the main level of the house. The huge and open living and dining areas have a wall of windows and sliders which lead to the massive wraparound deck overlooking the dunes and beach. The kitchen is an 'ell' off of the dining/living and is a very large with a very large island with a stainless-steel trough sink (to put your chilled edibles and wines) in the center and granite counter tops. Kitchen amenities include all stainless appliances, 4 sinks, a 6-burner commercial-grade Blue Star stove with two ovens w/broilers, plus grill and griddle, two dishwashers, a wine refrigerator, separate ice making machine and more. Off of the kitchen to the east is a breakfast area and more relaxed seating, and a “morning deck” equipped with a large propane-fired stainless barbeque. There is also a separate and comfortable sitting room/den with wood-burning fireplace for quieter pursuits, also with a large flat-screen when the mood to watch strikes. A lovely tiled half-bath with marble sink is just down the hall. Also on this floor is a queen bedroom with a sparkling white tile and marble bathroom with a shower and of course views of the dunes and salt marshes of Farm Creek. ?The second floor has two more bedrooms called the Sunrise and Sunset rooms (you can guess why) with amazing views and lovely en-suite baths with double sinks and tubs and showers. One bedroom is a queen and the other is a king and both bedrooms have two over sized window ledges that accommodate a twin mattress each, so could sleep two more people if necessary. The lower level of the house is less formal and more fun with a large center room with a ping pong table, a 'beach' bathroom (just outside is the path to the beach) with whimsical Brazilian blue granite double sinks, a shower and a sauna and separate steam room. There are also two bedrooms (two doubles in one and a king in the other) with en-suite baths and finally the laundry room and a mini kitchen to supply the necessary refreshments for your day of fun and sun on your own beach! In order to reserve this property, please call us. Check out the Netflix movie "Killer Cove." Great shots of the interior and exterior of the house. You need to wait 10 minutes or so into the film to see the house. They shot in two locations. The house is not in the shots where there are lots of houses. The Sandcastle has total privacy at he end of the Wingaersheek peninsula. |

This was one of the best vacations ever! The Sandcastle is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Sunsets are amazing. Incredible views from every window. Long beach walks. The kitchen is huge and so fun to cook in. We never wanted to leave.
(It's worth looking at the location on google earth.)This is the sort of house that makes you feel all is right with world. In a surprisingly sheltered location and surrounded by beach on three sides (it's worth looking at the location on google earth), it is magnificent. 5 stars doesn't capture the magic. Sitting with a drink on the terrace over looking the water (pick any terrace) with a balmy breeze, if you were appropriately dressed you'd feel like a character in the Great Gatsby, but you are not, you'll be barefoot in beach clothes with a few grains of sand on your tanned feet looking like you belong in a Ralph Lauren ad. With direct access to a beach that takes a leisurely half-hour to walk to the end of, there is no reason to go anywhere else. But Gloucester, is not far away and exploring it's main street, Rocky Point and is worthwhile. Perfect for family vacations, with two master suites each with an additional twin bed, couples with young children will have no problem. The house can also handle 5 couples beautifully. The kitchen is amazingly well supplied. There is no "Do we have a pan to make brownies?" here. It has everything, including the best possible layout for entertaining while cooking. I never felt like people were underfoot when I was cooking, but I was still engaged in the conversations around me. The house is large with high ceilings, so even in the rain, 15 people won't feel cramped.
Great privacy, views, and outrageously cool house. Worth every penny.
We were looking for a rental to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with our three children, their spouses and our 7 grandchildren. The Sandcastle was perfect for all of us including our dog. The large kitchen was incredible with multiple stoves, sinks, dishwashers, ample preparation space and an out door grill, which we made use of. It allowed our whole family to participate and made cooking fun. Because we were there in mid September, we did very little swimming but took advantage of the beach for flying kites, fishing, digging clams, canoeing and general relaxation. The view from every room in the house was spectacular and very much a part of the beauty. This rental home should be on everyone's "bucket list".
This house is unmatched. We have done the research! It is secluded on an amazing piece of property. Situated on the tip of white sand Wingaersheek, with dunes and salt march on the other sides. Take loooooong walks on the beach, kayak, dig for clams and experience pink sand in the marsh. The truly breathtaking sun sets over Crane's beach. There's almost no houses in sight. The moon rises are equally as beautiful. Look out any window and you see spectacular natural beauty. The layout of house is great for entertaining and hanging out. I love cooking in the kitchen, but there are some great delivery, take out or dine out options in town. Once you arrive, you won't want to leave! It's a great place for families with kids. We have a 7 year old, 5 year old and 1 year old and they love it. There are no stairs off the deck so kids can't get away from you and down to the water without notice - a great safety feature in our opinion, especially for our younger guests! The decor is appealing - neutral colors allow the ocean to be the star of the show. Lots of seating, high end appliances, clean and uncluttered rooms. The manager is accessible, knowledgeable, friendly, and a great artist to boot - her work hangs throughout the house. The ice machine (fantastic feature) had a leak on our first visit and the manager was responsive and the problem was resolved quickly with as minimal interference as possible. We are repeat renters and are coming back again this summer. We highly recommend this spot. You won't be disappointed.
This house is, by far, the most amazing house I've ever rented. And I've rented quite a few. It is spectacular, while still being completely comfortable. There are amazing views from every room, and particularly from the master bedrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need - and even has two dishwashers and two refrigerators. Kids LOVED the downstairs rec room with ping pong and air hockey, and thoroughly enjoyed going from the steam room to the ocean, over and over. Speaking of the ocean, the private beach is fabulous. There wasn't another soul around our entire week, and the water was wonderful. I can't say enough about this house. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great getaway. My one suggestion - get all your groceries on your first day, because you won't want to leave.
This house is a dream. My husband and I were married here this Fall and I cannot believe we found such a perfect, romantic spot for our ceremony. The owners are beyond accommodating and friendly. We had the ease/convenience of getting ready for the ceremony on separate floors with the most amazing views of the sunrise, and then the beach/ocean. Once we were ready, there was a perfect hidden spot of sand dunes for us to have our "first look" without being seen by the arriving guests. And then the actual ceremony location was right on the ocean with the unparalleled backdrop of Choate Island and Crane Beach! After the ceremony, we had a champagne toast with our guests in the kitchen/on the deck and the kitchen is so impressive. The center island that holds ice/champagne is gorgeous, and there is plenty of space for people to mingle. I would highly recommend this property to anyone for any occasion. The location truly lends itself to a dreamy, private getaway!
Amazing property. Incredibly friendly owners. A secret gem of a location on the North Shore.
This is a beautifully appointed, roomy, light-filled, comfortable home situated on a private waterfront with stunning views in every direction. The kitchen is a chef’s nirvana, equipped with everything you could possibly want. The house has plenty of spaces to play, read, socialize — perfect for a large family group. Strongly recommend!
Kim Thayer was so helpful with everything we needed and her stunning landscape oil paintings in the house are amazing. The only bummer about this house is leaving. Seriously. Once you get there you want to be on the beach all the time or decks and up for every sunrise. We caught stripers right off the beach, dug our own clams and the kids had a blast on the swim float. We had people over and all of us cooked in that fabulous kitchen. Every morning we can walked all the way down the beach. There were sand dollars and the sand is really pink. Down by the rocks it looks like the Mediterranean. The house has every amenity and the beach bathroom with outdoor shower and steam room and sauna is so fun. We shut the kids down in the rec room with the air hockey and ping pong so they were happy having their own space, and us ours. They even had the New York Times delivered!
