House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4) A tranquil hideaway cottage on a secluded corner of a three acre parcel in southern Kona Coast. Located 30 miles south of Kailua-Kona in Papa Bay, right above Miloli'i. Enjoy the Hawaiian country-side in a completely self-contained cottage away from the usual tourist traps. Elevation is at one thousand feet so no need for air conditioning. Ceiling fans are in all rooms to guide the gentle Hawaiian breezes. SuGar Cottage is a seven hundred square foot home that consists of one bedroom with queen size bed, one bathroom, laundry room, kitchen/dining/living room plus a screened in lanai. The living area has a futon that opens into a full size bed. SCUBA DIVERS! As a dive master I will take you out on shore dives. There is no charge for our tours. We provide FREE AIR and WEIGHTS. These services are for our guests only. KAYAKING! We have kayaks available . . FREE! We will provide you with a kayak for your use. Many guests enjoy snorkeling off the kayaks. Lots of great places to explore! SNORKELING! We can show you many locations to snorkel away from the usual tourist places. Ask us about our other vacation rental in Papa Bay that sleeps up to six people. You can find this at VRBO Listing #127431. Rates: $125.00 per night plus 14.68% Hawaiian tax US Dollars. Maximum of four guests.$50 cleaning fee regardless of length of stay. Check in 3:00pm Check out 11:am 50% deposit required upon booking. Unique Benefits
We are 63 miles from the Volcano National Park. The Green Sand Beach and Southpoint are about 40 miles from the cottage. We have quite a few great places to get in the water in our area of south Kona. It would be our pleasure to show these places to our guests. If you are a scuba diver, I can give you an underwater tour. If you just want to snorkel, we can go to the same places. Miloli'i, the oldest Hawaiian fishing village is right down the street from our cottage where there are many places to explore as well as enjoy the beautiful water.

My family and I had a wonderful stay at Garry and Susan's property! If you prefer a more laid back, authentic, "cottage-country" experience, this is the place for you! We were about a half hour drive away from Kona, and about 15 minutes away from an awesome lava-rock beach, where Garry was kind enough to take us snorkeling. He is a really great instructor, and was extremely patient and helpful in guiding us through the water. He even led us to some of the beach's "hot spots" for sea life, and taught us a little bit about the cool creatures that live in the ocean! The property itself has fully functioning facilities - kitchen, bathroom, laundry room - which were clean and organized. The bed and pull-out couch/futon were very comfortable to sleep in, and there is a lovely sitting/dining area that has a great view of their beautiful garden, but is surrounded by mesh windows to prevent the mosquitoes from getting in. Garry and Su are also just right around the corner, in case you need anything further. Overall, super friendly property managers, excellent living space, and a wonderful cottage getaway on the Big Island!
Plenty of room for the two of us. This place has everything you could need and is in a quiet location. Gary is a great divemaster and took us on two days of diving.
Great cottage to rest and enjoy nature, set in the mountains' forest. Exceptional host takes care of his guests with scuba diving and/or snorkelling and overall area knowledge. Do bring mosquito spray or use the one available there. And look up above your head: if you're lucky enough to be in the right season, there is a mangosteen tree in the yard! It was our second time at this cottage 2 years in a row and would go back in a heartbeat
This is a great place to get “off the beaten path.” And Garry is wonderfully generous with his time and good nature. He took us on a wonderful snorkeling expedition — we hope to return to scuba with him!
Wonderful hideaway tucked into the seclusion of rainforest setting. Garry and Susan are wonderful hosts. Everything you need is in the cottage. And the diving is great!! Garry knows the area so well - accommodates whatever level of skill you may have. Sad I can't rate at more than 5 stars!!!

The sugar cottage is an awesome place and it is so friendly and inviting. Gary and Susan are very attentive hosts. Gary is an amazing dive guide and a truly enjoyable person to be around. We are looking foreward to our next trip with them.

We loved staying at SuGar Cottage... Susan & Garry visited with us upon arrival and were both warm & welcoming. The space is comfortable and very clean. Our favorite part, of course, was having Garry to show us around the beautiful waters in this part of the Big Island. He is very patient, safety focused and quite generous with both his time & expertise as a divemaster! We also enjoyed the large screened lanai... especially during a rainstorm. The full laundry room with a large sink was a nice amenity as well. We will certainly be returning here in the future! Thanks for a lovely stay in Papa Bay!
