About the Property
Hersey Retreat Cottage is a unique waterfront home, built in the 1880’s. Originally part of the Hersey Retreat owned by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bangor, it has had one addition and several uses over its lifetime. With its own beach on Penobscot Bay there are waterviews from nearly every room and wraparound porches on three sides. A large, very functional and well furnished deck is accessed through French doors in the living room and through sliders from two of the bedrooms. The Cottage is located a few minutes from Shute's Seafood and Bucksport shopping including Hannaford's. Lively Belfast is about 20 minutes; Camden and Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park about 45 minutes. The Penobscot Marine Museum, Fort Knox and the spectacular new Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory are a quick jaunt up the road. Whale watching and schooner adventures are nearby, as are vinyards, Farmer's Markets and great gallery and artisan shopping opportunities. Bedroom 1 - "The Open Chamber" Is a large room which is the entire second half story of the Cottage. It is accessed from the main floor through a door and via a regular stairway. The room is furnished with a king-size bed and three twin beds. There are views of the Penobscot River and two skylights. BEDROOM 2 – “ROSA RUGOSA” Is furnished with a queen-size bed and a set of bunk beds. This room has French doors leading to the porches and has a view of Penobscot Bay. BEDROOM 3 – “THE NAUTICAL ROOM” Also with a queen bed and a set of bunk beds; this room has a glimpsing view of the Penobscot River BEDROOM 4 – “THE BICYCLE ROOM” Is a smaller room furnished with two twin beds which are frequently and comfortably made up as a king bed; also with view of the Penobscot River. BEDROOM 5 – “THE BLUE/FAMILY ROOM” Is a larger bedroom with a queen size bed and two sets of bunkbeds. The crib is also located in this room. There are sliders leading to the porch/deck, with views out to Penobscot Bay. Other windows provide views of the Penobscot River. There is a desk in the alcove of this room is adjacent to the sliders. |
